Hey Shoppers, watch out for this one: You get contacted by a company who claims that (for a small fee) they will get you mystery shopping projects. What the company really does, however, is charge you for information you can get for free. Even worse, once they get your credit card information, some of them will start charging you a monthly fee. You shouldn’t have to pay to see a list of mystery shopping projects or pay for a website membership.
If you’re interested in mystery shopping, here are a few (free) suggestions:
• If you want to see a list of mystery shopping companies, you can check with the MSPA (Mystery Shopping Providers Association).
• Go to company websites to learn more about individual mystery shopping companies and decide which ones you want to register with. (You shouldn’t have to pay a fee to register.) Once you’re registered, you’ll be able to view whatever projects that company has available.
• If you want to see projects that are available from a variety of mystery shopping companies, there are several good Job Boards available. You may have to register to view the board, but you won’t have to pay a fee.

Remember:
• You shouldn’t have to pay to become a mystery shopper.
• Be careful who you give you your credit card information to.
• If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
